City of Atascadero Announces the 2025 Sunday Aquatics Program!
The City of Atascadero is excited to offer weekend swim opportunities to the community on Sundays before the summer weather comes to an end! Programming kicks off THIS SUNDAY, August 10th with a Community Swim Day with Rec Swim from 12:00-3:00 PM. Group and Private Swim Lessons will begin on August 17th and run every Sunday through September 21st, offering three different levels to choose from. On Saturday, August 2 at approximately 4:55 p.m., Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services responded to a barn fire at 8620 San Carlos that had extended into surrounding vegetation. Upon arrival, fire crews found a barn that was on fire that was into the surrounding vegetation. A coordinated response from local and regional agencies helped quickly stop the fire’s forward progress by 5:40 p.m. In total, 9 acres of vegetation were burned, and one barn was lost. Menderu, the Malayan Tiger at Central Coast Zoo, Passes Away at Age 17
The City of Atascadero and the Central Coast Zoo are mourning the loss of Menderu, the beloved Malayan Tiger, who has been a favorite at the Zoo since his arrival as a cub in 2008. Menderu came to the Zoo from the San Diego Zoo at just one year old and lived a long, healthy life at the Central Coast Zoo. He passed away at the age of 17 years old, a lifespan which is at the average life expectancy for Malayan Tigers in professional care, and well beyond what is typical in the wild. “…
