There’s so much that’s new and exciting going on at the Charles Paddock Zoo; it’s hard to know just where to begin!
We are delighted with the recently completed renovation and reopening of our Aviary exhibit, which includes a complete refresh of all of the water features and new plantings to increase the perching and shelter choices for the birds, which create an oasis-like atmosphere for the viewing public. In addition, new shade structures were added to the pathways which provided a new area for enhanced graphics. The entrance to the Aviary has been replaced with a realistic representation of a biological research station from the 1940’s, adding a wonderful new dimension to the exhibit while providing expanded educational opportunities. We’re extremely pleased with the bright and colorful bird species that have been selected for the new Aviary, many of which have never been seen before at the Zoo!
With the opening of our new Turtle Lab, which is a critical component of the Zoo’s overall dedication to conservation, staff can now keep the Zoo’s extensive, off-exhibit turtle collection in a single, temperature-controlled environment. And the new public exhibit area, “Turtles in Trouble”, will introduce visitors to the very important conservation work being done behind the scenes in the Turtle Lab, highlighting its partnerships and progress with these species.
We’re very pleased about the fun and exciting events upcoming at the Charles Paddock Zoo! The very popular Chick City is back again this spring, beginning March 20th, but the cute little chicks will only be on display until April 3rd so be sure to visit before they’re gone! On April 16th the Zoo will observe Conservation Celebration Day, with conservation topics and information presented in a fun, entertaining and interesting atmosphere.
Brew at the Zoo is coming! April 30th from 5:00 to 8:30 pm, where a $30 Early Bird ticket, on sale beginning April 1st, includes a commemorative beer glass, microbrewery and cider tasting, plus live music! Please note that all Brew guests must be at least 21 years of age.
Cookie Adventure returns on May 8th from 11am to 2 pm, allowing everyone to enjoy a delicious variety of cookies while spending Mother’s Day at the Zoo! And everyone’s favorite, Ice Cream Zoofari, will be held on July 16th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Guests are invited to come out on a warm summer evening to enjoy a variety of ice cream and goodies while visiting with the animals!
The Charles Paddock Zoo has new features and upgraded exhibits that everyone should come out and enjoy. The Zoo celebrated its 60th birthday in 2015 with lots of new Zoo babies being born to help to commemorate the event; maybe we’ll see more in 2016!
