The Historic City Hall Project Team continued with their preparation to begin the Phase I early demolition portions of work. The first Bid Packages released in August 2010 were BP‐ ACH‐1 Deputy Inspection Services, BP‐ ACH‐3 Basement Wall and Floor Demolition, and BP‐ ACH‐4 Basement Electrical Demolition and Temporary Power.

The Project Team conducted pre‐bid and job walk meetings with interested bidders and successfully awarded Bid Package 3 to Allied Industries and Bid Package 4 to Rossi & Carr Electric from Paso Robles. The bidders for these first two packages were announced and contracts were awarded at approximately 50% below the current budgeted costs.

An interview panel consisting of personnel from the City staff and the Construction Manager, Bernards, interviewed the qualified firms competing for Deputy Inspection Services for the project on October 26th. Earth Systems Pacific out of San Luis Obispo was selected as the best qualified Deputy Inspection firm to service the project. Cost negotiations with Earth Systems are currently in progress.

In addition to these first three packages, Bid Package ACH‐6 Tree Removal and Protection was released to interested bidders in early October following the City Council approval to remove five (5) of the seven (7) large trees surrounding the Historic City Hall Building.

Currently available for bid review is Bid Package ACH‐2 Penthouse Demolition and Hazardous Materials Abatement, and requests for prequalification for interested Prime Contractors for Bid Package ACH‐8 Historic Restoration.

The Historical City Hall Project Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on October 29th in Sunken Gardens with City staff and council members, the local representatives to State and Federal government, and local businesses kicking off the construction for this exciting project that will continue to revitalize the City of Atascadero.

The construction team continues to encourage and solicit local participation for employment on the project and encourages interested subcontractors, trades men, and laborers to view the Employment Opportunities link via the City of Atascadero website @ www.atascadero.org.
